Charter for participants in creative groups

VERITY J GAVIN - CHARTERS

I come here with all my fragility.
I may disappoint you because I won’t dare to speak,

I’m not proud of myself and I don’t hold out hope of being able to change what I don’t like.

I’m afraid you’ll judge me or try to lecture me. You’re brave, just like me, for being here already!

I’m curious to hear your stories, each of your stories,
but I’m afraid I might feel sad or angry on your behalf.
Besides, it wouldn’t help me to add your worries to my own problems, so please don’t take on mine either.

Yet, I’m hopeful that we can move a little further together in life and towards something new.

Fortunately, I can express myself without words! I love that.

I’m not good at drawing, and I don’t sculpt.

I feel self-conscious about body movements, especially in front of others... but I feel a tiny flicker of joy and I don’t even think about anything else.

Being with you and dancing or making gestures that express our exhaustion and the energy returning.

If I dared to start by doing something... it would be thanks to you who let me try without making comments or laughing...

We’ll explore together, express ourselves in ways other

than with words, and sometimes words will quietly emerge from our silences.

For those who are too anxious to dare to do all this, look at me—I don’t care about the result.

I’m not looking for things to turn out beautifully in the end.

It’s about feeling safe... with your respect for me,
that encourages me most on this journey!

I want to get back on track with a life of my own...

with my whole being on the line.

I know I’ve held myself back too much.

I have locked away a lot of potential within myself, but through these creative processes... of this group, of these sketches, I am (re)starting to compose my life.
