various options
SIMPLE COLLAGE
Using large, flat, thick discs, thin cardboard cut-outs to be painted, or thick coloured paper.
Cutting out with the patient or preparing a tray in advance.
MOVEMENTS BETWEEN
Using large flat discs (or large sheets) for people standing (in pairs or in a group...) starting with a one-to-one exchange and then moving on to exchanges between all participants in the group.
MASKS
Using medium-sized, uncoated paper plates
Cut out the holes beforehand or with the character(s) once you have decided on the type of face for the character or animal to be painted or coloured with pastels (using fixative).
Activity suitable for all kinds of groups, to be set up:
- on the floor or taking turns to hold them, adapting your voice and choosing your words... for example, family, friends, people, present/past tense, preparation for an interview...
- face to face in a role-play setting, trying out different roles, positions and arguments (the judge, the accused, the victim). Meeting a parent as part of mediation or a family gathering...
E-MOTIONS
With a set already prepared, set aside for a different use, preparing... over time, a set of discs representing different emotions – for emotional education (covering emotions from A to Z).
The focus is on the person/participants and a therapist/adult who proposes an emotion and does NOT suggest how to draw it, but may at some point try to encourage an attempt by not showing their own until both have finished.
Sometimes, they decide it makes sense to draw another emotion... All emotions are written on the back... Some may be a mix... or a new name invented that feels ‘true’ or resonates with the person.
PERSONA(S)
A deliberate attempt to draw on a large or medium-sized sheet aspects of how one presents oneself to the world in general or in a specific context (e.g. at work / with in-laws...).
This can develop into a second (or inner) self, which can then explore the “true” self or hidden insecurities, feelings...
- MAKING small beds, cradles, rafts, bridges...
- Colouring, painting / for example: creating a small pond (a small plate painted blue inside a large plate or a cardboard tray... painted and filled with sand...)
- drum kit (using plates of different sizes)
- Secret garden: using large discs or plates and walls/alcoves cut out of smaller plates.
